If you are planning to visit the United States and want to travel by train, it is best to do so in the spring and autumn, when it is easier to find the best combination of schedule and price.
Ticket prices for the majority of routes are airline-style. This means that when the quota of tickets at one price level are sold, the price increases, the remaining tickets becoming more expensive. When planning a trip during peak travel times, it is best to book tickets as far in advance as possible. Round-trip tickets are priced based on the lowest-available fares in each direction, available at the time of booking.
